Laser Acupuncture in Ottawa

The benefits of acupuncture. Without the needles.

You've heard that acupuncture can help. Maybe you've even thought about trying it. But the idea of needles stops you, and you're not alone.

Needle fear is one of the most common reasons people avoid acupuncture, despite wanting its benefits. For many people, it's not a minor discomfort; it's a genuine barrier to care.

Laser acupuncture changes that completely.

At Twelvem Acupuncture in Ottawa, we now offer laser acupuncture, approved by Health Canada. No needles. No pain. No anxiety. Just the same carefully chosen acupuncture points, stimulated with precise, therapeutic light instead of metal.

What Is Laser Acupuncture?

Laser acupuncture uses a precisely calibrated beam of near-infrared or red light to stimulate the same acupuncture points that traditional needles target. The laser probe is simply held against the skin at the point location. You feel nothing. No insertion, no pressure, no sensation at all for most patients.

The light energy penetrates the skin and underlying tissue, triggering a cascade of biological responses at the cellular level — responses that closely parallel those produced by needle acupuncture.

It is a genuine therapeutic modality, not a watered-down version of "real" acupuncture. The acupuncture points are the same! The clinical goals are identical. The mechanism of stimulation is simply different and, for many patients, better suited to their needs.

  • Health Canada-approved device: the BTL Premium meets the regulatory standards required for use in Canadian healthcare settings.

  • No heat: the near-infrared probe operates in non-thermal mode; patients feel no warmth, no burning.

  • No skin penetration: the probe simply rests on the skin surface; there is no risk of infection, bleeding, or bruising.

  • Protective eyewear: provided for all patients and practitioners during treatment, as is standard protocol for all therapeutic laser devices.

  • Trained practitioner: all laser acupuncture at Twelvem is performed by Jocelito Camargo, a Registered Acupuncturist (R.Ac.) with advanced training in both traditional and laser-based acupuncture.

What Makes Our Setup Safe

Laser Acupuncture vs. Traditional Needle Acupuncture

Laser and traditional needling are different tools with overlapping and complementary strengths. At Twelvem, we offer both, and in some cases we use them together in the same session.
Many of our patients use laser acupuncture as their primary treatment, while others prefer it for specific areas or conditions.

Your treatment is always individualized. Depending on your goals, laser acupuncture may be used on its own or combined with traditional needle acupuncture, cupping, tuina massage, moxa and other therapies. Your practitioner will discuss the most appropriate approach for your situation at your first appointment.

Whether you've been curious about acupuncture for years but couldn't face the needles, or you are looking for a gentle option for your child, or you simply want to explore what laser acupuncture can offer, we'd love to hear from you.
